Inkscape is an excellent open-source vector drawing program, supporting the SVG format natively.
Exporting as PNG
- Generally you only want to export part of a drawing. The best is to create a new rectangle with opacity 0%, select it and then export as PNG. It will export the part of the drawing that's under this rectangle.
