Antidote is a great spellchecker (although proprietary) for the French language. Officially it is not supported on Gentoo, but it works with a few installation hassles. These instructions are for Antidote HD version 5.

Installation

  • Copy the bash installation program from the DVD to your HD. Run it as root; you will probably need to emerge the 1.2 slot of libpng (emerge --oneshot libpng:1.2).
  • I specified /usr/local/opt as the installation path.
  • To enter your serial number (and activation number), run the Antidote program as root (only for the first time). For me it only worked with kdesu:
kdesu /usr/local/bin/AntidoteHD

Integrations

OpenOffice

  • So far, I am unable to integrate Antidote with either openoffice or openoffice-bin.
